When should I see a nephrologist?

Most commonly your primary care physician will refer you to see a nephrologist. In case of hospitalization, you may also be requested to follow up with a kidney specialist if they see a need. Referrals are made when kidney disease is suspected or simply to manage the compromised function of your kidney due to a different illness such as diabetes and hypertension.
